Description:
This upbeat number swings it way through a series of juicy chord changes featuring an improvised alto solo with optional written out part. Lots of fun, clapping and tapping.
The alto solo is transcribed from Chris Gumbley’s improvisation featured on Saxtet’s album “Safer Sax”, which takes its name from this track. A performance of “Safer Sax” was televised on BBC’s “Edinburgh Nights”.

Reviews:
This is a stunning piece. Safer Sax may only last a few minutes (not unlike the real thing some might say) but it is uplifting, dynamic, virtuosic and an absolute winner with audiences. It requires virtuosic and experienced players as well as a lot of practise. It’s important to get your rhythm right in the middle section otherwise the final climax may not be as effective as Nigel Wood intended. It features improvisation for soprano and alto and includes a transcription of Saxtet’s original ones. Safer Sax will get those horns red hot… as the actress said to the …!
