In 1990, towards the end of my studies at the Birmingham School of Music (now Royal Birmingham Conservatoire), I established Saxtet Publications (SXP). It was intended to be a publishing company specialising in new sheet music for the saxophone, run by saxophonists for saxophonists.
SXP evolved from Saxtet, a saxophone quartet that I founded in 1985 while still a student. Initially, SXP focused on publishing music performed by the members of the group Saxtet - hence the name Saxtet Publications. However, over the past 30 years the catalogue gradually expanded to include arrangements and original compositions by many other saxophonists and composers, not only in the UK, but from around the world. I remained at the helm of SXP until 2013 when my colleague Tom Bruton became the new proprietor. SXP continues to publish most of my works, several of which appear on the sax and clarinet syllabuses of the UK's music examining boards.
SXP has become one of the world’s leading publishers specialising in sheet music for the saxophone. The number of published titles now exceed 420, with sales to over 80 countries. The catalogue now includes pieces by professors and composers from various music establishments, such as RNCM, RCM, Guildhall, Trinity, RBC and several leading US universities. New saxophone works are constantly being added to the website, and there has also been an increase of titles to the catalogues for clarinet and flute.
